For Elvis, 1977 started in a similar way to 1976, but with a really good exciting New Years Eve Show, with none of the problems of the 75/76 Concert. As Elvis Presley put down the phone having taken a call from President Jimmy Carter, he was well pleased-and Elvis had a right to be. He'd just put on one of his best ever shows (indeed whole tour) and things looked much better for 1977, than at the start of 1976. By all accounts, on Elvis's 42nd birthday things were still looking 'good' as he enjoyed a couple of weeks at his Palm Springs home relaxing with friends. Ginger Alden was with him and Elvis was talking about getting married in September!
The 1977 television special Elvis in Concert, which was shot during Elvis' last concert tour in June of 1977 (not actually the last concert itself as Vernon Presley indicated in a statement at the end of the special) aired a couple of times on network television and parts of it, and additional footage shot during the production of it, have been used in various television and video documentary projects over the years. However, much to the disappointment of a number of fans, we have no plans for releasing a home video of the Elvis in Concert material at this time.
Above - Elvis unusually sang Blue Christmas on the 18th June 1977, The Audio is an improved 4 track version from 26th March in Norman. The suit is the King Of Spades. Next day he went back under the camera spotlight for the 1st taping of the CBS '77 Project. Great sound, picture not so good.
Above - From the Elvis In Concert TV Special 1977. On June 21, 1977, just six weeks prior to his death, Elvis Presley performed Unchained Melody for what would be his last television appearance, Elvis In Concert. This recording was not included in the TV special and was ultimately released as a single and latter on the 'Elvis Aron Presley' box set. The video is today available on the Elvis The Great Performances DVD set. The version on the Moody Blue album was from an earlier appearance at Ann Arbor, Michigan. Only recently has the song been released on the Elvis Most Wanted CD.
Above - The very last performance of Unchained Melody from June 25, 1977 shot from 2 cameras including the 1st row. The footage is poor the sound incredible.
Stop, look and listen baby that's our philosophy .... First thing in the morning, last thing at night ... look, stare everywhere and see everything inside .... Stop, look and listen!
